Settled in the mid-19th century by many immigrants, the market is in the Soulard Historic District which is comprised of Victorian homes, multi-family buildings and a few mansions and is home to the St. Louis Mardi Gras and Bastille Day celebrations. The market takes place near the riverfront, east of Ray Leisure Park Playground.
